Summer at the Movies | Mary Poppins Returns
All truth is God’s truth, and sometimes the movies present truths straight from God’s heart. This summer we will look at four of the year’s biggest movies and four vital life lessons we can glean from them that help us live the life God designed us to have.
Perspective is everything—and you are in charge of your own.
Mary Poppins Returns
Perspective is everything, and I always get to choose mine. The world does have trouble, but it doesn’t have to color my outlook.
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
John 16:33
The perspective of a child is vital.
Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.
Mark 10:15
Perspectives that will change your world:
Everything is possible, even the impossible.
Jesus said, “With God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26
You can’t lose what you’ve never lost.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
II Corinthians 5:8
We’re the keepers of the flame.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
There’s nowhere to go but up!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
Bottom Line: Perspective is everything, and I always get to choose mine.
Next Steps:
Talk to God about areas where your perspective is bleak.
“A cover is not the book, so open it up and take a look!” Really get into God’s word to adopt his perspective. Memorize scriptures to say to yourself when your perspective gets skewed.
Give a friend or two authority to check you on your perspective when you are not at your best.
