Act Like life Depends On It // The Last Arrow
Imagine doing everything you were meant to do with your life. Imagine coming to the end of it all knowing that you shot every arrow in your quiver and you never gave up too soon. To do that is costly. You will face great risks. There is no backup plan. Everything is required, even your last arrow. Yet it is the only way to pursue life’s deepest joys and greatest battles—with a full heart and an empty quiver.
You will never fulfill your life mission and dream until it becomes urgent. Everyone wants to have a great life and matter in some way. But time is always short. You must become urgent.
Message Notes
One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out, “My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves.” “What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied. And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled. So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim!“Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons.“There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing.
II Kings 4:1-6
Everyone wants to have a great life and live a great story.
But great stories are always written with urgency and risk.
I urge you, Timothy, as we live in the sight of God and of Christ Jesus (whose coming in power will judge the living and the dead), to preach the Word of God. Never lose your sense of urgency, in season or out of season. Prove, correct, and encourage, using the utmost patience in your teaching.
II Timothy 4:1-2
Procrastination and “take it easy” are never compatible with a “last arrow” life.
BOTTOM LINE: Live with a sense of urgency. Act like your life depends on it.
Because it does.
NEXT STEPS:
1. Take time this week to write out a plan for what arrows you know you must shoot before the end of the year.
2. Write a life goals list of the arrows you believe God wants you to shoot.
