The New Kingdom is a New Movement // Kingdom Come

Jesus came to usher in the Kingdom of God. But it was not the kind of Kingdom anyone expected. Or for that matter, it wasn’t what the religious people wanted. They had in mind the kind of Kingdom and the kind of King they wanted, and this wasn’t it. But God loves us and knows exactly what we need, and Jesus embodied all of it. As he announced the Kingdom of God, it angered powerful people and he ended up dying a sacrificial death on the cross. But in three days he fulfilled his own prediction—he came back to life under his own power, and declared death and sin defeated! He proved that his Kingdom HAS come, and it is an everlasting Kingdom that knows no end. YOU are invited to belong. The Kingdom has come for you.

Jesus came to usher in the Kingdom of God. But it was not the kind of Kingdom anyone expected. Or for that matter, it wasn't what the religious people wanted...

One day Jesus’ Kingdom will cover the earth and the entire universe. We get to be part of the Kingdom’s expansion now!

Message Notes

The story of Jesus and his followers should have ended with his crucifixion.

The resurrection changed everything.

Jesus came to establish a kingdom that would know no end.

And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”
Luke 1:33

The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.
Revelation 11:15

The kingdom is for the world.

For everyone.

This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:9-10

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 3:16-17

If we are forgiven and following, his mission is our mission.
His message is our message.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Acts 1:8

God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand… So let everyone…know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!
Acts 2:32, 36

We are his witnesses, his ambassadors.

Our lives and our lips are to be continual invitations to the Kingdom.

We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.
Acts 4:20

This Kingdom is unshakeable.

Unlike your ancestors, you didn’t come to Mount Sinai—all that volcanic blaze and earthshaking rumble—to hear God speak. The earsplitting words and soul-shaking message terrified them and they begged him to stop. When they heard the words—“If an animal touches the Mountain, it’s as good as dead”—they were afraid to move. Even Moses was terrified. No, that’s not your experience at all. You’ve come to Mount Zion, the city where the living God resides. The invisible Jerusalem is populated by throngs of festive angels and Christian citizens. It is the city where God is Judge, with judgments that make us just. You’ve come to Jesus, who presents us with a new covenant, a fresh charter from God. He is the Mediator of this covenant. The murder of Jesus, unlike Abel’s—a homicide that cried out for vengeance—became a proclamation of grace. So don’t turn a deaf ear to these gracious words. If those who ignored earthly warnings didn’t get away with it, what will happen to us if we turn our backs on heavenly warnings? His voice, that time, shook the earth to its foundations; this time—he’s told us this quite plainly—he’ll also rock the heavens: “One last shaking, from top to bottom, stem to stern.” The phrase “one last shaking” means a thorough housecleaning, getting rid of all the historical and religious junk so that the unshakable essentials stand clear and uncluttered.Do you see what we’ve got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. For God is not an indifferent bystander. He’s actively cleaning house, torching all that needs to burn, and he won’t quit until it’s all cleansed. God himself is Fire!
Hebrews 12:18-29 (MSG)
