And the Answer is... // Better than the Bible

Are you ever afraid someone will ask you why you believe what you believe? Do you fear someone might question what you believe? Responding to people's questions and challenges can get complicated. But what if you were confident you had the answer to the most important question about your faith? What if you could actually share a convincing faith in a cynical world? Our faith is solidly based on so much more than you might think! Let’s figure it out together!

The Message Bible refers to the Holy Spirit's arrival and the spread of the gospel as "...like a wildfire." Originally called the Holy Ghost because of his u...

One of the most frustrating things about being a Christian is the questions people ask about what you believe. Especially if it is a skeptic. Especially if they already have an argument prepared. What are you supposed to say in just a few seconds? How do you defend your faith without losing your mind and credibility? Can you actually make an impact?

Message Notes

More often than not, the pull to Jesus is emotional, not logical.

We don’t resolve tough questions about faith.
We think, “Jesus worked, and that’s enough.”

Six days of creation? A world-wide flood? Jonah and the whale?
REALLY?

We have made Jesus and the Bible synonymous.

“I’m a Bible-believing Christian.”

“I believe in the Bible.”

“The Bible says it, that settles it.”

The Bible: We believe every word of it, but have we read even a third of it?

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
John 6:1-14

Jesus Walks On Water
John 6:15-25

Jesus’ Words to the People
John 6:26-59

Many of his disciples said, “This is very hard to understand. How can anyone accept it?” John 6:60 NLT

At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him.
John 6:66 NLT

Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”
John 6:67 NLT

Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.”
John 6:68-69

If you are a follower of Jesus, your faith does not rely on the Bible.
It’s better than that...

Bottom Line

Arguing is not an answer. The reason for my hope is the answer.

Next Steps

  1. Discuss the Talking Points.

  2. Concentrate on giving a reason for YOUR hope and faith, not “defending the faith.”

  3. Plan ahead.
