With great confidence people will often quote twisted scripture and skewed ideas they’re convinced represent God’s thoughts and perspective. Some of these diverged ideals have become so common they’ve even been absorbed as truth into our contemporary church culture. These ways of thinking are popular, but misleading. This message series will help us translate what God really says

The world says, “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me”. We are encouraged to pursue what we believe we deserve, and assume that God/the Universe moves toward those who unabashedly go for their dreams. But Jesus calls for us to seek the Kingdom of God first, not ourselves and our own pursuits. If we do, he guarantees that everything else we need will fall into place.

“God helps those who help themselves.”

1 in 8 Americans believe the Bible says this.

Popular thought is that we at least need get the ball rolling ourselves.

God says that those who rely on themselves are foolish.

Those who trust in themselves are foolish.” Proverbs 28:26

Who does God help?

Those who recognize they cannot help themselves and are utterly helpless.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:6-8
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.
II Chronicles 20:12

Those who make the main thing the main thing and seek his Kingdom first.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
