Dave Freeland // Testimony

I was born to be used as a tool, not to be a child. There were six of us kids, I am the second youngest, and we were poor. I had to grow up hard and fast. My mom was a great woman who taught us about God and love; but my dad was a mean man, and I grew up trying to fill his shoes.

I was a lone wolf all my life, struggling with my demons. A few people in my life tried to help, but I was nowhere ready for help. I didn't think I needed help. I lived life wanting to square up with God and stand in front of him and demand he answer me, “Why?”

I had three children and three stepchildren that I tried to raise right, but not knowing how, I just did the best I could. I discovered there’s no owner's manual on being a parent. So, as always, I was lost. My Aunt Gretta, who I love with all my heart, always told me I was nothing like my dad, even though, as I said, I had been trying to fill his shoes. Eventually, a special lady came into my life. She helped open my eyes and although she had her own demons, she helped me with mine. She, along with my sister Barb, my Aunt Nellie, and my Aunt Gretta, planted seeds that God is growing now. I thank God! I have accepted Jesus and will continue to learn in his name!
