Addiction & Recovery
For over 30 years my life was based on the lie that I needed drugs and alcohol to exist, to deal with my problems.
From alcohol to cocaine and everything in between - the lowest part of my addiction culminated in 2012. After a 17 year addiction to opiates I found myself sitting in the Summit County jail, facing multiple felonies due to the poor choices I made while I was going through the hell of addiction.
I had lost everything - my job, my savings, and soon to be my home.
In my cell, I cried out to Jesus to come into my life and save me! That date was December 16th 2012.
Jesus, wasting no time, led me to Cornerstone Church on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2012 through the prompting of my wife of 31 years. I've never been the same!
In February of 2014, my family and I were all baptized together at Cornerstone. God continues to take us from glory to glory and transform me into someone I never thought I could be. In 2016, I was asked to lead a small, faith based recovery group called Freedom from Addiction. It started as a 12 week small group.
Since that time it has transformed into a year long, twice a week meeting, one in Summit county (Akron) and one in Stark county (Canton). We continue to have people join and find their freedom in Christ. The name of the group was changed after much prayer, to Everlasting Recovery - to reflect what God continues to give all of us in the group on a weekly basis.
As I look back on the past eight years, God continues to amaze me with his grace and mercy. All glory be to God! I see where God's hand was on me even before I knew Him. In Acts 1, Jesus tells us we will receive the power of the Holy Spirit and witness to the ends of the earth.
If you are struggling with addiction, life, self worth, whatever it is please call on the powerful name of Jesus, He and He alone will transform you into what you were created to be, with a peace that surpasses all understanding!
Much love, Mike Scheis
