It's A Phase! Don't Miss It! | The Building Years - Adulthood
God has designed life to be a wonderful adventure, from the first breath on the planet to the day we leave for our forever home. There are distinct and delightful phases to the journey, each unique and filled with purpose. But they all pass more quickly than we think. Understand the design, challenges, and opportunities of each phase so you can find fulfillment along the way and complete the journey with joy.
The key task of adulthood is becoming the person God intended me to be and embracing my identity.
Message Notes
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
I Corinthians 13:11
Adulthood—the time you have it all together and life is smooth, right? Not so much.
This broad time span is when we make 3-5 major decisions, and then spend the rest of our lives managing those decisions.
Adulthood is a challenging phase. We are not only living our OWN life; we are setting a standard for those who follow us.
There are key tasks that lead to the person God intended you to be.
Personal:
Achieving autonomy
Knowing and establishing identity
Developing emotional stability
Relational:
Managing a household
Finding intimacy--forming close, honest, long-term relationships
Developing life contributions—family/career/passions
Spiritual:
Becoming part of community
Repairing my past
Managing my memories
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I Thessalonians 5:18
It’s a phase. Don’t miss it.
Bottom Line
The key task of adulthood is becoming the person God intended me to be and embracing my identity.
